New education policy must create jobs for youth: Gujarat minister

Vadodara, March 23: Emphasising on skill-development, Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama today urged the Centre to design a new education policy that creates job opportunities for the youth.

During a consultation meeting on New Education Policy organised by HRD Ministry in Delhi today, Chudasama said he stressed on the need to craft India's education policy in a manner that it enables the educated youth to take up jobs.

"Economy of the country has expanded manifold, so did the aspirations of the youth. I made an appeal during the meeting that educated people must have jobs," Chudasama said. During the meeting, education ministers from various states deliberated on the issue and also gave their suggestions.

The minister said that he also suggested the Government to consider providing incentives to those states that show maximum increase in expenditure in the education sector.

He also suggested that the new policy should encourage participation of stakeholders like education trusts and other organisations in primary, secondary and higher education. Efforts should be made to ensure availability of quality teachers, regular teachers' training programmes, facilities like housing for teachers, research should be carried out to make teaching a lucrative profession, said Chudasama.

He said HRD minister Smriti Irani on the occasion thanked Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel for hosting the International Conference on Education in Gandhinagar, to be held by the end of this year.
