At a significant gathering at O.P. Jindal Global University, the National Convention on the Constitution of India was a stage where the enduring strength of the Constitution was celebrated. This event, marking the 75th anniversary of the Constitution's adoption, brought together six Supreme Court Judges who jointly emphasized the Constitution's critical role as a dynamic document ensuring the preservation of democratic values and rights as intended by its creators. A highlight of the convention was the unveiling of India's First Constitution Museum, an initiative underscoring the constitutional journey and its pivotal role in the nation's democratic fabric.

The convention was not just a celebration but also a reflective session on how the Constitution has acted as a guiding light for the nation, as explained by Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor and Dean of Jindal Global Law School. He stressed the importance of understanding the Constitution's impact over the years while welcoming the dignitaries and emphasizing the Constitution's status as the moral compass that guides the country. This sentiment set the tone for the discussions that followed, where the inviolability of the Constitution's basic structure was a recurring theme.
Justice C.T. Ravikumar delved into the Constitution's core, describing it not just as a set of directives but as a heartfelt mission to establish justice. He highlighted its adaptability and the immense trust the founding fathers vested in the judiciary to uphold its tenets. Following him, Justice M.M. Sundresh spoke about the Constitution's foundational spirit of democratic republicanism, stressing the importance of aligning laws and policies with the Constitution to maintain a balance between fundamental rights and duties.
Justice Abhay S. Oka called for a candid reflection on how well the judiciary has lived up to the Constitution's aspirations, urging a sustained effort to protect its basic structure and, by extension, the fundamental rights of citizens. This notion of continued commitment was echoed throughout the discussions, reinforcing the idea that the Constitution is not just a historical document but a living, breathing entity that guides the nation's democratic journey.
Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia brought attention to India's successful navigation through skepticism at the time of independence, crediting the Constitution for the country's unity and the strength of its democratic values. Following him, Justice Sanjay Karol highlighted the judiciary's crucial role in maintaining the Constitution's ideals and underscored the significance of judicial independence for national progress. Justice K.V. Viswanathan then reflected on the Constitution's effectiveness over the past 75 years, noting the smooth transitions of power and the citizens' role in fostering harmony and brotherhood.
The combined insights from these distinguished judges and academicians like Prof. (Dr.) S.G. Sreejith and Prof. (Dr.) Dipika Jain illuminated the Constitution's foundational role in shaping India's governance and democracy. The event celebrated the Constitution's lasting influence on uniting a diverse nation under shared ideals of justice, equality, and freedom, reminding everyone of the collective responsibility to uphold and cherish these principles.
