More About IELTS Writing test

This test lasts for 60 minutes. Candidates will be given either an Academic test, or a General Training test. There are 2 writing tasks to be performed which involves different styles of writing. There is no option to select question topics.

IELTS Academic writing:
This tests the ability of a candidate to produce two different forms of writing in a reasonably short period of time. The candidates must complete the test in 60 minutes, which comprises of two parts.

*IELTS Writing task 1:
Candidates will be given a task which will be based on some information in this first task. This information may be in the form of a graph or a diagram. A descriptive report consisting of at least 150 words on the information given is expected to be written by the candidates.

*IELTS Writing task 2:
A topic will be provided and candidates must produce a clear and logical argument on that, in this second task. Most of these topics provided are general. Undergraduate and post graduate students can easily understand these topics. The candidates are expected to write at least 250 words on the topic give. Since task 2 is longer than task 1, it is advised to spend 40 minutes on task 2 and 20 minutes on task 1.

IELTS General writing:
This test lasts for 60 minutes. There are two tasks of 150 and 250 words as in the academic module, for candidates to complete. Task 1 is always a letter and task 2 is an essay based on a given topic. The topics given will be of general interest. Example, current affairs, health and safety, social and physical environment etc.

*IELTS Writing task 1:
In this task the candidate must write a letter which may be in semi-formal or formal in tone in response to the given situation or problem. The information related to three bullet points in the question must be included. The answer should be at least 150 words in length.

*IELTS Writing task 2:
In this task the candidates must discuss a topic in response to a statement which gives a specific point of view issue or argument. The candidates must write a fluent piece of writing, where the candidates have to discuss a factual information, discuss of a problem and present solutions, evaluate ideas or justify opinions, as per what the question asks them to do. This task must be at least 250 words in length.
