Meerut students design three-floor bus

New Delhi, July 7: To help save fuel and ease traffic woes, three enterprising students from Meerut have designed a three-floor bus, which they claim if put to use by the government will help the environment at large.

Sachin Ghaj, a 24-year-old student from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut along with his two friends, Prashant Kumar and Sandeep Choudhary, have designed the bus.

Named Ghaj, the height of the bus is the same as that of the common bus used for public transportation. "The height of our bus is 11 feet. It is 12 meter long with a width of 8 feet which is similar to the common buses. It's first and second floor are air conditioned, while the third floor is open and convertible," told Ghaj.

He added that Ghaj has been conceptualised and designed to accommodate around 100 passengers across the three decks.

"The beauty of its design lies in the fact that the third deck can also be used as an open-air gallery," said Ghaj.

He said the bus can be used for inter-state travelling as well as a private or a semi government college bus, and even in emergency situations.

"As far as the safety is concerned, our bus will follow the Code of Practice for Bus Body Design and approval," quoted Ghaj.

Kumar, a student of commerce from the university, who also helped ideate the concept shared that the team has been working on the project for the last few years. "If everything goes as planned, Ghaj will be on Indian roads in 2016," said Kumar.
