Major Update on NEET UG Result 2024: NTA and Government to Review NEET UG Results 2024 for 1500 Students

The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Education Ministry have set up a four-member committee to review the results of over 1,500 candidates awarded "grace marks" in the NEET UG 2024 exam. Allegations of discrepancies and paper leaks have put the results under scrutiny.

Major Update on NEET UG Result 2024

The committee includes a former UPSC chairman and three academicians. They have started their investigation and are expected to announce their verdict before next Saturday. NTA Director General has denied irregularities, attributing the high number of top rankers to a relatively easier paper and additional marks given to students who faced delays during their exams. The committee's verdict will not impact other results.

Grace Marks and Legal Challenges:

A total of 1,563 students received grace marks based on a normalization formula. However, NTA has not disclosed the formula details. Students have filed petitions in various high courts challenging the results.

The Delhi High Court has listed a writ petition for hearing on June 12, challenging the final answer key and compensatory time given to candidates. The Calcutta High Court has directed NTA to file an affidavit within 10 days, explaining how the reservation policy was followed in preparing the merit list. The Supreme Court has listed a writ petition for hearing on July 8.

Record Achievements and Increased Cut-off:

The NEET UG 2024 result was declared on June 4, with 67 students achieving the All-India Rank 1. The cut-off for various categories has increased this year compared to last year. The exam is the qualifying entrance test for admission to medical and dental courses.

Political Reactions:

Political parties have highlighted the discrepancies in the results. The Congress chief has called for a high-level investigation supervised by the Supreme Court. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has reiterated his opposition to the exam, stating it goes against social justice and federalism.
