Maharashtra Schools to Follow CBSE Curriculum from 2025-26 Academic Year

In a landmark move towards educational reform, the Maharashtra government has announced that textbooks following the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus will be available in Marathi from April 1, 2025. This initiative aligns with the state's broader vision of transitioning to the CBSE curriculum across schools starting from the 2025-26 academic year. The move is expected to enhance learning quality and academic standards for students in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Schools to Follow CBSE Pattern

Strategic Shift Towards Quality Education

The decision was confirmed by State Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, who emphasized the state's commitment to improving student performance and overall educational quality. "CBSE pattern will be implemented from the academic year 2025-2026, and the government has taken this decision with an aim of improving the quality of students in the state," Bhuse stated.

This transition follows the approval of the State Curriculum Framework by the Steering Committee, which oversees school education policies. Schools across Maharashtra have already been instructed to adopt the CBSE curriculum, ensuring a systematic and phased implementation.

Two-Phase Implementation Plan

  • Phase 1: The CBSE pattern will be introduced at the Class 1 level, accompanied by teacher training programs to help educators adapt to the new syllabus.
  • Phase 2: The curriculum will be gradually expanded to cover additional classes over the following two years.

To facilitate a smooth transition, training sessions for teachers and education officers will be conducted, ensuring they are well-equipped to deliver the revised curriculum effectively.

Balancing CBSE Curriculum with Maharashtra's Cultural Identity

One of the significant concerns raised was the potential dilution of Maharashtra's rich history, geography, and language due to the new curriculum. Addressing this, Bhuse assured that while the CBSE syllabus is being implemented, Maharashtra's history, geography, and Marathi language will remain integral parts of the educational framework.

This guarantees that students will receive a balanced and culturally inclusive education, maintaining their regional identity while benefiting from CBSE's national-level academic structure.

Impact on Maharashtra's Education System

Currently, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) conducts SSC (Class 10) and HSC (Class 12) examinations. The integration of the CBSE curriculum signifies a major shift in the state's approach to education, aligning it with national standards and providing students with better academic opportunities.

This development is expected to bridge the gap between state and national-level education systems, ensuring that Maharashtra's students receive a higher quality education that prepares them for competitive exams and global opportunities.

With the launch of CBSE textbooks in Marathi on April 1, Maharashtra takes a significant step toward educational transformation, paving the way for a stronger, more competitive academic environment for its students.
