Know How Kartavya Path is Getting Ready for Republic Day?

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar- the Father of the Indian Constitution once said in the Rajya Sabha in Sept'1953:
"My friends tell me that I have made the Constitution. But, I am quite prepared to say that I shall be the first person to burn it out. I do not want if it does not suit anybody."
This was the idea during the inception of the Constitution. Our Constitution is the world's longest Constitution for any sovereign nation. At its enactment, it had 395 Articles in 22 Parts and 8 Schedules. It is the second largest active Constitution, after the Constitution of Alabama in the world. The original 1950 Constitution is safely preserved in a nitrogen-filled case at the Parliament House Library in New Delhi.
After the enactment of our Constitution on 26th January 1950; we became a republic nation and every year, we celebrate it on the 26th of January. This celebration is actually a 3-day long affair which ends on 29th January with the Beating Retreat Ceremony. This is very interesting to know that the first Republic Day Parade was conducted in 1955 and not in 1950.

On this day, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was sworn in as the First President of our nation, which officially became the Sovereign Republic from that day onward. The Constitution gave the citizens of India the power to choose their own government and paved the way for Democracy. On this very day of 26th January, the President of India unfurls the National Flag on Rajpath followed by magnificent Parades and Jhaankis.
But, this year all the ceremonial activities will be performed on a 3kms long "Kartavya-Path" and not on the Rajpath as the Rajpath- from Rashtrapati Bhawan to India Gate has been renamed as "Kartavya-Path" by the present Government. When built, the road was named Kingsway in honor of the Emperor of India- George V, who had visited Delhi during the Durbar of 1911, and when the Emperor formally proclaimed the decision to move the Capital from Calcutta to Delhi.
Following the independence of India, the road was given its Hindi name- Rajpath. This represented a more translation than a substantial renaming. Under the Central-Vista redevelopment project, this has been renamed "Kartavya-Path", which no doubt sounds pretty prestigious and this will shed the colonial image and slavery, which we were compelled to endure for two hundred years. This signifies a "message to the ruling class that the era of rulers and subject is over."

Considered the most popular public space in the city, the stretch has been redeveloped with red granite walkways, spreading around 1.1 lakh square meters with greenery all around. There are more than 133 light poles along with the Kartravya-Path, 4087 trees, 114 modern signages, and stepped gardens.

With all the grandiose splendor of the Kartavya-Path, this year onwards, we shall be celebrating Republic Day on this Path. The President of India- Smt. Draupadi Murmu will unfurl the National Flag on the "Kartavya-Path" on 26th January 2023 in the presence of several dignitaries, instead of the Rajpath.
