From January 23 to 26, Kozhikode will transform into a vibrant hub of literary and cultural festivities as it hosts the eighth edition of the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF). Renowned as Asia's largest gathering of literary minds, the event will bring together over 500 speakers from 15 countries, with an estimated half a million attendees flocking to the UNESCO City of Literature to celebrate the magic of the written word.

Celebrating Kozhikode's Literary Legacy
Kozhikode, steeped in a rich literary tradition, has been home to iconic Malayalam writers such as Vaikom Muhammad Basheer and M.T. Vasudevan Nair. This heritage provides the perfect backdrop for the festival, which bridges the city's storied past with modern literary discourse. The festival elevates Kozhikode's status as a beacon for both established and emerging voices in literature.
International Collaborations Highlight Global Appeal
A unique highlight of KLF 2025 is its partnership with France, introducing an international flavor to the festival. Esteemed French literary figures, including writer-director Philippe Claudel and graphic novelist Zeina Abirached, will headline discussions and cultural exchanges. Ravi Deecee, CEO of DC Books, emphasized the festival's diverse roster, which includes historians, musicians, and authors from across the globe.
Blending Literature and Culture
KLF's dynamic program includes literary sessions, live music, and interactive workshops. Notable performances by violin maestro L. Subramaniam and vocalist Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan promise to enchant audiences, adding a musical layer to the literary feast.
This year's festival introduces Children's KLF, a dedicated platform designed to nurture young readers. Interactive storytelling and workshops will aim to spark a lifelong love for literature among the youngest attendees, ensuring that the legacy of KLF continues for generations.
Honoring Excellence in Literature
The much-anticipated KLF Book of the Year Awards, recognizing outstanding works in fiction and non-fiction, will take center stage on January 25. The nominees, including Manoj Kuroor's The Day the Earth Bloomed and K.K. Kochu's autobiography Dalithan, reflect the diversity and depth of contemporary literary talent.
Although literary titan M.T. Vasudevan Nair will not attend this year, his legacy of fostering open discussions remains. KLF continues to champion bold ideas and thought-provoking debates, ensuring it remains a platform for meaningful conversations.
Global Celebration of Ideas
With its unparalleled blend of literary brilliance, cultural richness, and international participation, KLF 2025 is more than just a festival-it's a celebration of human creativity and connection. As Kozhikode gears up for this grand event, the city reaffirms its position as a global literary epicenter, where words and ideas have the power to inspire, unite, and transform.
