The Karnataka SSLC examination witnessed a pass percentage of 73.40% this year, marking a decline of 10% from the previous year and a 15% decrease compared to 2022. Among the 8.5 lakh students who appeared for the examination, 6.3 lakh successfully passed.

Notably, girls outperformed boys, achieving a pass percentage of 81%, while boys recorded a pass percentage of 65%. Similarly, rural students maintained their trend of higher pass percentages, reaching 74%, which was 2% higher than their urban counterparts.
In an effort to bolster the pass percentage, authorities modified the criteria for awarding grace marks, allowing a maximum of 10 marks for students who narrowly failed in at least three subjects. Despite the positive reception from educationists, the results saw a significant decline, with the pass percentage plummeting to 54%, marking a 30% decrease from the previous year's 84%. Consequently, the government initiated a normalization process to mitigate the impact on students' interests.
During the normalization process, the qualifying marks for grace marks were lowered from 35% to 25%, while the allocation of grace marks was increased from 10% to 20% across all subjects. As a result of normalization, the pass percentage surged to 74%.
