Clean Sweep For Left Unity In JNUSU Election Result 2018

The JNUSU election results are out. The United Left Alliance has swept the polls in JNU. N Sai Balaji is the president and Sarika Chaudhary is the new vice president.

The United Left Alliance has swept the students' polls in JNU. It won all the four central panel posts of president, vice president, general secretary and joint secretary. The alliance comprises of left-backed student wings such as All India Students' Association (AISA), All India Students' Federation (AISF), Students' Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Students' Federation (DSF).

N Sai Balaji hailing from Hyderabad has been elected as president after winning with a margin of over 1,000 votes. Sarika Chaudhary, who has been in JNU campus since her graduation, won the post of vice president with a majority of over 1500 votes. Aejaz Ahmed Rather from Jammu & Kashmir is the new general secretary and Amutha Jayadeep is the new joint secretary.

N Sai Balaji of AISA has defeated Lalit Pandey of ABVP to become the president. According to the sources, Balaji bagged over 2100 votes. The DSF's candidate, Sarika Chaudhary, has defeated ABVP's Geetasri Boruah for the post of vice president. Aejaj Ahmed of SFI won the post of general secretary by defeating ABVP's Ganesh Gurjar. Amutha Jayadeep of AISF defeated Venkat Choubey of ABVP to win the post of joint secretary.

The counting process began on Friday and was halted for several hours due to allegations of rigging. After a lot of drama at the counting centre including storming of RSS affiliated student organisation into the counting centre on Saturday, the counting was resumed.

Compared to last year, the voting percentage has registered a decent growth. Around 67 per cent of students turned out for elections to exercise their vote.
