Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai have made impressive strides in this year's Quacquarelli Symonds Best Cities Rankings. Delhi jumped 21 spots to reach 111th place, recognized as the second most affordable city for students. Bengaluru also improved, moving up 17 spots to secure the 130th position and ranking seventh for affordability.

Despite their affordability, none of these Indian cities made it into the top 100 for Student Mix or Desirability. This is because Indian universities are still attracting fewer international students compared to universities in other countries.
In the academic year 2021-22, about 46,000 foreign students enrolled in Indian institutions, a slight decrease from the previous year. Most of these students came from Nepal, Afghanistan, the United States, Bangladesh, the UAE, and Bhutan.
Globally, London continues to be ranked as the best city for students for the sixth consecutive year, followed by Tokyo and Seoul. Munich and Sydney complete the top five. Despite tough competition globally, Indian cities performed well in Employer Activity, with all four cities appearing in the top 100.
While Indian cities are attractive to employers, the low number of international students and low desirability ratings show that more efforts are needed to make them more appealing as study destinations. The progress in Delhi and Bengaluru's rankings indicates that India has the potential to become a more popular choice for international students in the future.
