The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is set to conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025, a computer-based test (CBT) for admission to postgraduate engineering programmes.
The institute has also launched a new website for GATE 2025, gate2025.iitr.ac.in, and announced the list of cities where the exam will be conducted, divided into eight zones.

Exam Pattern
The GATE 2025 exam will feature 30 examination papers, allowing candidates to select one or two test papers from permissible combinations. The exam duration will be three hours, and GATE scores will remain valid for three years after the result announcement date. This prestigious nationwide test assesses candidates' knowledge in various undergraduate-level disciplines. Successful qualifiers can pursue Master's and Doctoral programs with potential financial aid, while GATE scores are also considered by educational institutions and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment processes.
Negative Marking
Negative marking will be applied for wrong answers in multiple-choice questions (MCQs). For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer, while for a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted. However, there is no negative marking for wrong answers to multiple-select questions (MSQs) or numerical-answer type (NAT) questions, and no partial marking in MSQs.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before applying for GATE 2025. Eligible candidates include those studying in the third or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or those who have completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities.
