National Institute Of Siddha Plans Guinness World Record For Varmam Therapy Session

The National Institute of Siddha will host a large-scale Varmam therapy session on December 18, aiming to set a Guinness World Record. This initiative highlights Siddha medicine's drugless treatments, showcasing its efficacy and benefits to a global audience.

In an ambitious move to bring Siddha medicine into the limelight, the National Institute of Siddha (NIS) is gearing up to set a Guinness world record by hosting a large-scale Varmam therapy session. Scheduled for December 18, this event will feature 555 Varmanis providing Varmam therapy to an equal number of patients. This initiative, underpinned by the Union Ministry of Ayush's support, aims not just to set a record but to underscore the efficacy and benefits of Siddha medicine's drugless treatments to a global audience. Prof R Meenakumari, the director of NIS, shared these details, highlighting the institute's commitment to promoting Siddha medicine's virtues and the therapeutic prowess of Varmam therapy nationwide.

NIS To Attempt Guinness World Record With Varmam Therapy

Varmam therapy, a cornerstone of Siddha medicine, stands out for its drugless approach to treating a wide array of conditions, from pain management to serious neurological disorders. Prof Meenakumari emphasized its significance as a quick and effective remedy within Siddha medicine, traditionally known for its martial arts origins. Varmam therapy is especially valuable for addressing issues related to bones, joints, muscles, and even complex diseases affecting the brain and nervous system, like strokes and rheumatoid arthritis. Moreover, it offers an economic, prompt treatment option for trauma and accident injuries, underscoring its utility and accessibility.

Siddha medicine, an ancient Indian medical system, is renowned not only for its curative properties but also for its preventive measures against diseases. Prof Meenakumari lauded Siddha's methods like Kayakalpam, Varmam, and Thokkanam for their exceptional contribution to health and wellness, evidencing the system's depth and history. The upcoming world record attempt is part of the NIS's broader strategy to disseminate the advantages and knowledge of Siddha medicine far and wide. This initiative aligns with previous efforts to enhance public awareness and appreciation of Siddha medicine, such as the notable motorbike rally from Delhi to Kanyakumari conducted by a group of Siddha doctors. This rally covered 3,333 km in 20 days, featuring medical camps and awareness talks across various states each day.

Amid the Covid pandemic, the NIS's commitment to leveraging Siddha medicine's potential was further demonstrated through the establishment of five Siddha Covid care centers in Tambaram. These centers were instrumental in conducting four clinical researches, showcasing Siddha medicine's effectiveness in managing and treating Covid-related health issues. These endeavors reflect the NIS's dedication to not just preserving but also advancing Siddha medicine's legacy through innovative and impactful initiatives.

As the NIS prepares for this monumental event, the hope is that the Guinness world record attempt will not only highlight Varmam therapy's significance but also cement Siddha medicine's position as a reliable, effective, and accessible form of treatment on a global stage. Through such efforts, the NIS aims to enhance the visibility and credibility of Siddha medicine, encouraging more people to explore its benefits for both preventive health and disease management.
