Campus Fund and Amazon Web Services (AWS), in partnership with 360One, recently wrapped up the 5th Edition of the Grand Challenge, a distinguished contest aimed at fostering student entrepreneurship across India. The competition has successfully highlighted the immense talent and innovative spirit of young entrepreneurs nationwide. This year, NCF Energy earned the title of Student Startup of the Year, introducing a groundbreaking thermal energy technology. Their invention, Nano Carbon Florets (NCF), boasts an ability to absorb 90% of solar energy, potentially slashing carbon emissions by two-thirds.

The challenge attracted a record 1,012 applications from budding student entrepreneurs, indicating a growing interest and participation in innovative endeavours. A meticulous selection process whittled these down to 51 startups, which then received personalized mentorship from industry specialists. Ultimately, 12 startups made it to the finale, showcasing a wide array of innovations ranging from blockchain gaming platforms like Bakeland to sustainable thermal solutions by NCF Energy, and even smart glasses for the visually impaired by Panoculon Labs.
Among the finalists, Poccet Labs from AIIMS Delhi and Kuberns from Vellore Institute of Technology also stood out with their pioneering solutions. Poccet Labs is on the verge of revolutionizing medical diagnostics with a device capable of conducting lab tests from just two drops of blood. Kuberns, on the other hand, is simplifying cloud deployments with their Platform as a Service solution that eliminates the need for configuration.
