The Goa budget, presented by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, places a strong emphasis on education with an allocation of Rs 2,100 crore aimed at enhancing the sector. A notable feature of this budget is the introduction of a compulsory internship program for students seeking graduation, set to commence from the academic year starting June 2025. This initiative is part of a broader goal to foster practical learning and ensure students are well-prepared for the professional world. In addition to focusing on education, the budget outlines significant support for the state's tourism and industrial sectors. Entrepreneurs looking to establish starred hotels in rural areas will benefit from tax incentives, while industries investing over Rs 5,000 crore can expect full SGST reimbursement for the initial five years. These measures aim to stimulate economic growth and development across various sectors.

The budget reveals a positive outlook for Goa's economy, projecting a GSDP at current prices of Rs 1,38,624.86 crore by 2025-26. This reflects an anticipated growth rate of 14.27 per cent. Moreover, Goa’s per capita income is expected to reach Rs 9.69 lakh, indicating a strong and healthy economic environment. Such projections underscore the government's confidence in the state's fiscal policies and growth trajectory.
Strengthening Education Through Technology
Chief Minister Sawant has earmarked Rs 19.91 crore specifically for coding and robotics education, under the CM-CARES scheme. This initiative aims to establish two centres of excellence and proctored test centres across all 12 talukas, highlighting the government's commitment to integrating modern technology into the education system. Furthermore, the budget includes plans to provide an accessory kit worth Rs 20,000 to students enrolled in various vocational courses under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF), demonstrating an effort to equip students with the necessary tools for their fields.
The government's dedication to educational improvement extends to infrastructure enhancements, with plans to upgrade computer laboratories in government middle schools and provide a laptop in every class. This move towards e-learning is complemented by a significant investment of Rs 200 crore for school building repairs, ensuring that the physical environment is conducive to learning. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy to achieve a 100 per cent literacy rate in the next financial year, aligning with global sustainable development goals.
The budget's multifaceted approach, including significant investments in education, support for the tourism and industrial sectors, and efforts to modernize learning through technology, reflects a comprehensive strategy to foster economic growth and development in Goa. With a focus on practical learning, infrastructure improvement, and fiscal incentives, the budget sets a path for a prosperous and robust economy in Goa.
