GATE 2026 To Be Held in February: Exam Pattern and Paper-Wise Syllabus Explained

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 will be conducted in February 2026 across multiple sessions. Organized by one of the IITs, GATE 2026 will follow a computer-based format for all 30+ papers. The exam pattern will include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

The paper-wise syllabus for GATE 2026 covers core engineering subjects, general aptitude, mathematics, and discipline-specific topics such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Computer Science, Electronics, Chemical Engineering, and more. The official syllabus will remain similar to previous years with minor modifications. Candidates must review topic weightage, exam structure, and distribution of marks to prepare effectively.

GATE 2026: Exam Pattern & Paper-Wise Syllabus

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is expected to be conducted across the first two weeks of February 2026, as per the annual schedule followed by the IITs. The examination will be held in online mode (CBT) for all papers and will serve as a crucial gateway for admission to postgraduate programs such as M.Tech, ME, MS, PhD, and for recruitment to PSUs including NTPC, ONGC, IOCL, HPCL, BHEL, and more.

GATE 2026 will feature over 30 subjects, allowing candidates to choose their preferred engineering, science, or interdisciplinary paper. While the official conducting institute will release the detailed notification later, the exam format, marking scheme, and syllabus are expected to align closely with GATE 2025 with slight revisions.
