In this interview, we'll dive into the key challenges students face today, the evolving education landscape, and the strategies that help students thrive academically and personally. Whether you're a student, parent, or educator, there's something valuable for everyone.

So, let's get started and uncover insights that could shape the future of education!

1.What inspired you to become an education consultant?

My journey into education consulting was shaped by both personal experiences and a desire to make an impact.

One pivotal moment was witnessing the struggles my brother faced, after being guided to a mediocre university by an unscrupulous consultant. Later, it became clear that the consultant was more motivated by university commissions rather than genuinely guiding my brother toward the right path.

Unfortunately, I've seen this story play out far too often, and it fuels my determination to offer students unbiased, honest advice that prioritizes only their best interests.

In 2016, after almost a decade in finance, life took a beautiful turn as I became a parent. So, I wanted a career that gave me the work-life balance to spend more time with my daughter. Moreover, I wanted to do something more meaningful - where I could help people directly and see the difference my work made.

I had already spent years informally advising friends and family on education and career choices. So at that point, formally transitioning into education consulting was an easy decision. And today, I'm proud to guide students and their families, ensuring they make informed decisions that set them on the path to success.

2. How do you stay updated with the latest trends and changes in the education system?

Universities frequently update their offerings, and education systems continuously evolve with newer, more relevant programs. Even application procedures aren't static-especially in today's fast-paced world where AI is reshaping how applications are processed.

Thus, to stay ahead, I actively track official university websites, read education blogs, and follow the latest news in the education sector. I attend information sessions hosted by universities and education boards, network with admissions officers, and maintain strong ties with past students to stay informed about current trends. Additionally, I engage with industry professionals to gain insights into which degrees and skills are in demand across various careers.

3. What advice do you have for students choosing the right career path or course?

Understanding why you're drawn to a particular course or career is the most important. Don't choose something just because it's popular or sounds impressive. True satisfaction comes from genuine interest, natural aptitude, and ideally, some relevant skills to back it up.

But here's the catch: you won't truly know if it's the right fit unless you've experienced it firsthand. Without that exposure, you risk committing to a path that might not align with your passions or strengths.

That's why gaining practical experience is key. Whether it's through internships, job shadowing, or industry projects, real-world exposure helps you make informed decisions before settling on a course or career.

My advice? "Try it before you commit to it."

4. How do you help students with time management and balancing academics with extracurricular activities?

Students often find themselves juggling countless commitments, making it crucial for them to be strategic, and focus first on activities that add the most value to their profile.

My first step is always to help them identify both - the gaps in their profile and the potential activities that will make them stand out. Once we've pinpointed these areas, we prioritize them based on impact and relevance. From there, I guide them in developing key time management skills-like time blocking, staying organized, and creating effective schedules-to balance academics and extracurricular effectively.
Throughout our collaboration, we consistently monitor their progress, making adjustments to the plan as needed to ensure they stay on track.

5. What do you think is the biggest challenge students face in today's education system?

I believe the biggest challenge students face today is acquiring practical, job-ready skills. Education systems-especially in India-must evolve to integrate meaningful, hands-on experiences into the curriculum.

Universities should shift their focus from just imparting theoretical knowledge to preparing students for real-world careers by equipping them with skills that are relevant in today's job market. With the rapid rise of AI, this gap has become even more pronounced. In today's professional landscape, the real differentiator isn't just what you know-it's how effectively you can apply that knowledge to solve real-world problems.

6. How can parents play a role in supporting their child's educational journey?

In my experience, the most successful students are those whose parents act as enablers. Rather than making decisions on their behalf, parents should focus on providing the resources, encouragement, and opportunities their children need to explore various careers and pathways.

Times are changing, and today's students have access to more opportunities than ever. Rather than being helicopter parents who manage every detail, it's more impactful to equip children with the skills and confidence to make decisions independently. Be their support system-offering guidance, encouragement, and access-while allowing them to lead the way.

7. What do you think about the shift towards online learning and hybrid models in education?

During COVID, we witnessed how online and hybrid learning models can save resources and improve efficiency. They've proven to be time-saving, expand access, and boost outreach.

However, in-person learning still holds significant value. The networks you build, the hands-on experiences, the teamwork, and the depth of experiential learning are hard to replicate in an online setting.

That's why I believe hybrid models-striking a balance between in-person and online learning-offer the best of both worlds. They combine the flexibility of digital education with the depth and connection that face-to-face interactions provide.

8. How do you assess the needs of each student and tailor your approach to meet them?

Every student has unique dreams, aspirations, and journeys. Building a strong bond with each student allows me to truly understand their needs and tailor my approach to support them effectively.

Communication is the foundation-it starts with establishing a rapport and exploring their motivations and goals. Why do they want to pursue a Master's? What kind of career are they aiming for, and in which location? These insights help me identify the universities and courses that align best with their aspirations.

Next, I evaluate where the student stands currently. Some may have gaps in their profile-whether in academics, work experience, or clarity of purpose-while others might be well-rounded but lack a standout factor.

Since every student is different, I customise my guidance to fit their unique profile. It includes advice on both academic and non-academic areas-such as subject and project choices, internships, research opportunities, and extracurricular activities-with the ultimate goal of helping them achieve their dreams.

9. What is the importance of soft skills and emotional intelligence in education today?

The rise of AI has levelled the playing field in many technical fields, allowing students with diverse skill sets to start from a similar baseline. However, this fact isn't true across the board-soft skills and emotional intelligence remain the ultimate differentiators. In fact, they've become the real competitive edge.

History shows that the most successful leaders have excelled not just because of their technical expertise, but because of their strong soft skills and high emotional intelligence. As technology continues to advance, these uniquely human traits will only grow in significance.

In education, students may boast impressive grades and academic prowess, but to develop a truly holistic, well-rounded profile, soft skills are essential. These qualities enable students to collaborate effectively, communicate ideas clearly, build meaningful relationships, adapt to new environments, and navigate the stress and uncertainty that often accompany higher education and competitive applications.

In short, soft skills and emotional intelligence help students thrive-not just academically, but personally and professionally. And that's exactly what universities and employers are looking for today.
