In the picturesque campus of Neelakudi, Thiruvarur, in Tamil Nadu, a groundbreaking initiative was recently undertaken by the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) to delve into the educational landscape for individuals with disabilities. The Enabling Unit for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Department of English Studies, spearheaded a One Day International Seminar focusing on "The State of Education for the Disabled: Indian and Polish Perspectives."

This event, held on 14th February 2024, served not only as a platform for discussion but also as a commemoration of the International Day of People with Disabilities-2023.

Esteemed speakers from both Poland and India were invited to share their insights and experiences, making this seminar a melting pot of ideas and strategies aimed at improving educational opportunities for disabled students. Notably, Prof. Dariusz Mikulowski from the University of Siedlce, Poland, and Mr. P. Chandrasekar, Secretary of the National Association for the Blind, Tamil Nadu State Branch, were among the key speakers. Their contributions, along with those of Prof. G. Ravindran, Dean of the School of Communication at CUTN, and Dr. V. Sivaraman, Associate Professor at Presidency College, Chennai, shed light on the multifaceted challenges and necessities encountered by disabled students in educational institutions across Poland and India.

Dr. Boopathi. P, an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Studies at CUTN, took the stage to outline the commendable work being done by the Enabling Unit for the disabled community within the university. By introducing the seminar's theme, he underscored the importance of increasing educational opportunities for disabled individuals to boost the Gross Enrolment Ratio among this demographic. Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar of CUTN, echoed these sentiments, praising the Enabling Unit's efforts in meeting the unique needs of the disabled community on campus.

Dr. B.
