The University of Delhi (DU) has announced the initial round of seat allocations for undergraduate programs for the academic year 2024-25. This year, DU is set to admit students across 69 colleges, departments, and centers, offering approximately 71,600 seats, excluding supernumerary categories.

The admissions will cover 1,559 different programs and college combinations.
Admission Statistics and Application Process:
According to Delhi University, a total of 2,45,287 candidates applied for the first phase of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS(UG)). Of these, 1,85,543 applicants completed the second phase by submitting their preferences for various programs and college combinations. In total, DU received 1,72,18,187 preference submissions.
Important Deadlines for Candidates:
Shortlisted candidates in the first round must log in to their dashboard and confirm their seat allocation by Sunday, August 18, at 4:59 pm. They are also required to pay the admission fees by August 21, at 4:59 pm. Candidates who make the payment by this deadline will be eligible for an "Upgrade" in subsequent rounds if desired.
New Features and Transparency:
The University has introduced a new feature on the admission dashboard that allows students to view details of cutoffs and ranks that influence seat allocation based on category and quota. This addition aims to enhance transparency in the admission process.
Understanding Cutoffs and Ranks:
DU will release information on common ranks, cut-off ranks, program-specific CUET scores, and cut-off scores for each program to which a candidate has applied. Admission allocations are based on a unique common rank; therefore, matching the cut-off score does not automatically guarantee admission.
"It is important to note that candidates with identical program-specific CUET scores may receive different ranks. The common rank is determined by applying tie-breaking rules," stated the University's press release.
Ranks will not be generated for performance-based programs such as BA (Hons) in Music or BSc in PE, HE & S, nor for certain supernumerary quotas like sports or ECA. Candidates are encouraged to frequently check their dashboards for updates on cutoffs and ranks to stay informed about their admission status and necessary actions.
Overall Admission Landscape:
Delhi University's approach this year reflects a high level of interest in its undergraduate programs, with over two lakh applications received in phase one alone. This indicates DU's strong appeal among students seeking higher education.
The new dashboard features are part of DU's commitment to improving the admission experience for both students and administrative staff. These enhancements are expected to streamline the admission process and maintain high standards of fairness and efficiency.
Delhi University's detailed planning and execution demonstrate its dedication to facilitating a smooth admission process while ensuring transparency and accessibility for all applicants.
