The Central government has approved the establishment of 11 new nursing colleges in Tamil Nadu for Rs 10 crore each, stated State Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Friday. He stated that these colleges, which would have 100 undergraduate seats, would be erected next to the state-run medical colleges. Because the state already has six nursing colleges, there have always been requests to open more. The colleges, which will have 100 undergraduate seats, will be erected next to state-run medical schools. Tirupur, Nilgiris, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Krishnagiri, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, and Kallakurichi would be the sites of new nursing colleges.

"During my meeting with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya two months ago, I requested approval for 30 new nursing colleges in the state due to high demand." On Thursday evening, eleven additional nursing colleges were approved for Tamil Nadu," Subramanian told the reporters.
He stated that several legislators had requested the establishment of a nursing college in their respective Assembly constituencies or districts. Subramanian stated that the locations of the colleges would be selected in consultation with Chief Minister MK Stalin.
Officials have been directed to guarantee that anti-snake venom injections, anti-rabies vaccine, and "loading dose" - first aid tablets used to reduce blood viscosity, minimise the severity of heart attacks, and save lives - are available at all PHCs and health sub-centres.
According to the Centre, the new colleges are a step towards developing nursing professionals who will serve simultaneously the Indian and global markets, as Indian nurses' services have been recognised in numerous countries.
