The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has updated its class size policies to better accommodate students joining mid-year or those needing to repeat a grade. This change is in response to various requests from schools to address admissions resulting from parental transfers and essential repeats.

"We have received various representations from schools regarding admissions due to parental transfers and essential repeats," stated the new circular issued by CBSE.
Key Changes
Increased Class Size for Mid-Year Admissions and Repeats: Schools can now have up to 45 students per section for mid-year admissions and essential repeat cases. However, this increase will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Approval Process: Schools must submit requests with supporting documents to their regional CBSE office for approval. This exception is not automatic and requires specific approval from the regional office.
General Student Intake: The standard student intake for new classes remains at 40 students per section.
Infrastructure-Based Section Increase: Schools with sufficient infrastructure can apply to increase the number of sections through the SARAS portal. The application window for this process is open until June 30.
This policy adjustment aims to provide flexibility to schools and ensure that students' educational needs are met even if they join a school mid-year or need to repeat a grade. Schools are encouraged to utilize the SARAS portal for infrastructure assessments and to manage class sizes effectively.
For more detailed information and to submit requests, schools should contact their respective CBSE regional offices and refer to the guidelines available on the CBSE official website.
