Canada issued guidelines for Indian students

The Canadian government has issued a new set of guidelines for Indian students who are going to Canada for their studies and has asked the students to not start working before their course commences. In the recent tweets, the High Commission of Canada stated that "you can only start working when your study programme has started."

Students who are going to Canada this fall or winter term will have to undergo verification on arrival. A border services officer will review their documents. The official tweet read: "Be prepared to show that your DLI has allowed you to arrive late or that you have received a deferral."

The notice comes after finding a large number of fake documents being submitted by Indian students abroad.

At the same time, the Indian government also issued an advisory for students who are living and studying in Canada after a rise in hate crimes against Indians.
The government stated that there has been a "sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence, and anti-Indian activities in Canada". The Ministry of External Affairs has advised Indian citizens, especially the students who are studying there, to register at the official websites of the Indian Embassy to connect with government in case of an emergency.

India condemned the vandalism at a recently unveiled park named "Shri Bhagawad Gita" in Canada's Brampton and asked authorities to investigate and take prompt action against the perpetrators of the hate crime. Mayor Patrick Brown confirmed the vandalism and stated that "Canada has zero tolerance for such attacks".

Canada is the most popular country for Indian students studying abroad.
Every year, lakhs of students go abroad for their studies. In 2019, over 5,86 lakh Indians flew abroad to study. This year, in June 2022, 2.45 lakhs students have already taken off to study abroad. As per the government data, the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia are emerging as the preferred study hubs for Indian students.
