The Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, is gearing up to present a groundbreaking proposal for a Rs 10,000 crore supercomputing hub to the Cabinet. Emphasizing the significance of upcoming amendments to IT rules, Chandrasekhar assured that the revisions would focus on algorithmic accountability, addressing crucial aspects of technology governance.

A key element of this ambitious initiative involves leveraging the power of C-DAC's PARAM supercomputers to augment artificial intelligence (AI) computing capacity. The proposal, aligning with recommendations from an expert working group in October 2023, envisions establishing cutting-edge computing infrastructure featuring 24,500
GPUs distributed across 17 innovation centers.
Of this total, approximately 14,500 GPUs are earmarked for AI model training and high-performance storage, with the remaining 10,000 dedicated to AI inferencing. This strategic allocation aims to fortify India's AI capabilities, fostering innovation and research in the rapidly advancing field.
In a related development, Minister Chandrasekhar hinted at the imminent notification of Information Technology Rules, emphasizing the government's commitment to creating a robust regulatory framework that aligns with evolving technological landscapes. The proposed supercomputing hub, with its substantial investment and forward-looking approach, signifies a major leap towards positioning India as a global AI powerhouse.
