Bengaluru is preparing for an unusually cold winter as temperatures drop earlier than expected. November mornings and evenings have already grown brisk, with readings fluctuating between 15.5 and 16 degrees Celsius-lower than the typical December onset. Northern Karnataka districts, including Bidar and Vijayapura, are even chillier, with temperatures nearing 12 degrees Celsius, prompting meteorologists to anticipate sharper drops in December.

La Niña's Icy Grip
This year's early winter is largely attributed to the La Niña phenomenon, known for its cooling effect on sea surface temperatures in the Pacific, which disrupts weather patterns worldwide. Karnataka has not been spared, experiencing a colder-than-average season. Light rainfall forecasted for November 26-27 is expected to intensify the chill across Bengaluru.
What's Next for Bengaluru?
Daytime temperatures, currently hovering around 28 degrees Celsius, are predicted to dip further as December approaches. Nights could bring lows of 12 degrees Celsius in Bengaluru, while parts of northern Karnataka brace for sub-10-degree mornings. Intermittent cloudy skies and gentle northeast winds will accompany this colder weather.
With temperatures likely to set new records, residents should start layering up and ensuring their homes are well-prepared for extended cold spells. Experts recommend regular weather monitoring and staying equipped with essentials like warm clothing and blankets.
