Education is the cornerstone of a nation's development and progress. In a significant move aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Assam, the state cabinet has given the green signal for the merger of the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) into a single entity - The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).
SEBA and AHSEC Merger: A Revolutionary Decision
This historical decision, which aims to streamline school education in Assam, was announced on October 17, 2021. It is expected to bring about significant improvements in the education sector in Assam, ensuring a standardized and comprehensive educational structure across the state. It will also help to eliminate redundancies in the system and enhance operational efficiency.

Impact of Merger
The merger of SEBA and AHSEC into ASSEB represents a bold step towards educational reform in Assam. It is anticipated to streamline administrative processes, reduce costs, and improve the quality of education. This unification will allow for a more coordinated approach to curriculum design and examination processes, ensuring that students across the state receive a consistent and high-quality education.
The merger of the two prominent education boards in Assam will pave the way for a more unified and efficient education system, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth. With the creation of ASSEB, the state is expected to witness a significant transformation in its education sector, leading to better learning outcomes and brighter futures for students in Assam.
The revised regulations aim to uphold the student-teacher ratio and make the most efficient use of manpower for effective academic support and to prevent negative impacts on academic activities in government schools at the Secondary level, according to the state government. On June 6, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, disclosed the intention to merge SEBA and AHSEC. The state made this decision in line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). He assured that the employees working for SEBA will not be unemployed.
