The Assam government has ordered all schools to promote students of Classes 1 to 9 whether they appear in examinations or not. The Commissioner-Secretary of the Education Department issued the order keeping in mind the academic losses suffered by students due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Assam government's no-detention policy will be applicable to private institutes as well. The new academic session for the year 2021 is scheduled to begin on April 1. The board exam schedule for Class 10 and 12 has already been released by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA).
The schools resumed the offline classes in January and exams began in February. But some schools had to cancel the exams as some teachers came in contact with the virus. Hence, the state education department ordered the cancellation of annual exams for Classes 1 to 9.
Monthly Scholarship Of Rs 7000 For Class 11 And 12 Students
"The educational institutes can conduct the annual examinations in the first week of March 2021, but it is not compulsory for students to be present physically for exams in schools. Irrespective of whether students sit for the exams or not, all the students up to Class 9 will be promoted to the next class," read the order.
The schools were physically closed from March to November in 2020 in view of national lockdown due to the pandemic. The classrooms were shifted to online mode. But many students couldn't afford smartphones and high-speed internet, mostly in rural areas due to which they were at risk of falling behind in studies. For Classes 10 and 12, the course syllabus has been reduced by 30 percent this year.
