Annamalai University classes to re-open today

Chennai, Sept 8: Nearly a month after it suspended classes in the wake of a students' protest, Chidambaram-based Annamalai University has announced partial resumption of classes from Monday, September 08, 2014.

"Classes for all postgraduate courses, including agriculture and engineering branches, will begin tomorrow," said a release from the university, whose administration was taken over by the Tamil Nadu Government last year.

Besides the PG courses, classes for B.Sc (Agriculture and Horticulture) second-year and B.E (all branches) second and final-year would also begin today. The date of commencement of classes for third-year students pursuing B.Sc (Agriculture and Horticulture) and B.E (all branches) would be announced later, the release said.

University Administrator Shiv Das Meena had on August 9, has announced indefinite suspension of classes barring medical courses in its campus in Chidambaram, about 200 km from here, following a dharna by students demanding disbursement of scholarship for SC/ST students.

Following allegations of financial irregularities, the state government took over administration of the 86-year-old university through an act.
