3 Nagaland Districts Closed Their Schools as Cases of Conjunctivitis Spiked
Due to an increase in conjunctivitis cases in the state, three districts in Nagaland are going to suspend their schools for one week starting on Monday.
According to reports, schools in Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Nuiland would be closed till August 26, 2023.
The first instance of conjunctivitis was reported by an Assam Rifles personnel who had returned to the Phek district after a vacation in July, according to the state project officer for the National Project for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCBVI).

According to the distinct orders issued by the deputy commissioners of Chumoukedima, Dimapur, and Niuland announcing the closure of schools, conjunctivitis cases have been increasing, particularly among children. It has been decided that physical education classes will remain suspended in order to stop the spread of infections.
Since July 1, the state has recorded 1,006 cases, which is the most in recent memory. With 721, Dimapur recorded the most cases, followed by Kohima (198) and Mokokchung (87). As a number of district hospitals have still to submit their findings, the number of cases is anticipated to increase.
The DCs advised the school administration to consider alternatives for the pupils during this time, such as online classes.
