M Karunanidhi welcomes SC order on quashing NEET for Medical Courses

M Karunanidhi welcomes SC order on NEET
The former chief minister said his government had in 2007-08 academic year scrapped the Common Entrance Test for medical courses in the state, and since then the admission process was based on Class XII marks and reservation policy.

DMK President M Karunanidhi today welcomed the Supreme Court order quashing Common Entrance Test for medical courses and asked the Centre not to file a review petition against it.

He said there was no provision for reservation in the Medical Council of India notification. Besides, it amounted to "interfering" in a state's rights.

In a letter to partymen, Karunanidhi referred to the Centre's plan to file a petition seeking review of the apex court ruling and said it "is not acceptable." "As far as DMK is concerned, I wish to make it clear that it will oppose entrance test in any form," he said.

The Supreme Court had on July 18 quashed the MCI notification for holding common entrance tests for MBBS, BDS and post-graduate medical courses.
