FIR Filed Against Ten Students Of AU For Ragging

FIR Against 10 Students For Ragging
The authorities of Allahabad University has filed a FIR against 10 students, who belong to AN Jha Hostel as they have involved in ragging freshers (First year batch) students.

The accused candidates are currently a BA, B.Com and MSC courses in the same university and could face further punitive action in the form of rustication. A group of nine newly admitted lodgers of AN Jha Hostel had submitted a written complaint to hostel superintendent Prof Avinash Panday on October 3, 2012 informing that their seniors were ragging them.

On taking immediate action, Prof Pandey locked the rooms of the senior students accused and served them a show-cause notice. While the superintendent was conducting an inquiry, a group including outsiders threatened Punit Patap Pandey for instigating the new students to complain in writing.

Proffessor Pandey said that "On receiving the complaint, I locket the rooms of the seniors involved and expelled all of them from the hostel. On Tuesday, when I informed the Chief Proctor about the incident he filed an FIR against 10 students". Cross FIR's have been logged and those accused of ragging are forcing their juniors to withdraw their police complaint. While some of the junior students are ready to take back the complaint, the seniors accused want the university authorities to close the matter", he added.

"Now the FIR has been lodged, these students would be suspended and many even get rusticated from AU", said Chief Proctor Prof Mata Amber Tewari. The menace of ragging through in its milder from has sustained on the AU campus in the name of 'Intro', which includes juniors of various hostels being paraded on the roads late night and suffering abuse.

However, the Supreme Court has given a comprehensive meaning of ragging as "Ragging is any disorderly conduct, whether by words spoken or written, or by an act which ahs the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness to any student, indulging in rowdy acts which cause or are likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the psyche of a fresher or a junior student".

Well, very recently there was a start of Strict Measures To Avoid Ragging Act by the Education dept. Ragging has to be stopped in each and every schools and colleges/university/institutes across India.
