RTE Likely To Bring Up Caste-Wise Quota Education

A meeting which was held here on Saturday stated that there is no clarity on the allocation for socially backwardness and economically backwardness among those admitted under the Right To Education Act. The secretary, Department of Primary and Secondary Education Kumar Naik and Commissioner for Public Instruction Tushar Girinath were also present in the meeting.

A high-level committee on the Right to education (RTE) Act headed by Chief Secretary SV Ranganath has proposed to extend the reservation policy existing in higher education to children admitted under the RTE in unaided primary schools.

A senior official of the Education Department said a formal decision is yet to be taken regarding this matter. The official said “It could be 8:2, 6:4 or 5:5”. If the government approves the proposal, the existing reservation for details and Other Backward Classes will be extended even for admission of students under the RTE's 25% quota for disadvantaged section.

This 25% students should necessarily come from within a municipal ward in urban areas as already notified. The deputy directors of Public Instruction are in the process of compiling data on the area to be deemed the school's “Neighbourhood”.
