Proposed JEE2013 Ended Indecisively Over A Meeting

Meeting On JEE-2013 Ended Indecisively
The meeting which was held between the IIT's (Indian Institutes of Technology) and MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) over the proposed JEE 2013, a common entrance exam for admission to centrally funded technical institutes in India ended with no conclusion at all.

However, both parties declared that the meeting was positive and fruitful. The meeting was held on Wednesday, 11th of April 2012 between the HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal and Directors of IIT, faculty federation representatives from older IIT's of Kanpur, Kharagpur, Bombay, Delhi, Madras and Guwahati and Chairperson of the Board of Governors.

The meeting was called after the IITs of Bombay, Kanpur and Delhi had expressed their doubts over the proposed changes in the entrance exam. The highest decision making authority in each IIT, Senate of IIT Kanpur and Delhi had earlier raised question on replacing IIT-JEE and had asked the ministry to discuss the issue of exam reforms.

Sources revealed that ministry has asked IIT Directors to discuss the proposed exam reforms in the senate following which the IIT's will respond to the MHRD with their suggestions for consideration. But, IIT Bombay, Delhi and Kanpur had not given their consent over the proposed reforms. Moreover, no senate or faculty federation was consulted for formulating the examination reforms. Thus, IIT's apprehended that the new IIT entrance exam is being implemented forcefully.

The ministry's initiative of discussing the reforms in respective senates appears to be an effort to counter these apprehensions. However, IIT's have requested ministry to put all reforms on hold till the senate expresses its consent.
