It has been revealed that the programme was scrapped for some-time because Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) was not ready to accept the fees hike, also, the government did not sponsor enough officials for the programme.
When PGP-PMP was launched, the fee was Rs 8 lakh for government-sponsored candidates. IIM-A raised the fees to Rs 12 lakh for 2008-09 batch and to Rs 20 lakh for the 2009-10 batch. But, the proposal to review the fee for sponsored candidates was not accepted by the government, which insisted on fixing it at Rs 8 lakh.
Hence, a committee was set up by the IIM-A in 2010 for reviewing the entire package and that concluded with a solution of resuming the programme once again. The first batch of PGP PMP in 2007-08 had 33 participants and 12 were sponsored by the government. The 2008-09 batch had 39 participants with 20 sponsored officials and the 2009-10 batch had 30 participants including 19 sponsored officials.
