10% Additional Seats In IITs For Foreign Nationals

With an intention to widen the foreign students enrollment to the Indian Institutes of Technology, the IITs have decided to add 10 per cent more seats for foreign students to the existing quota for every IIT course. To attract more foreign students, the IITs will now conduct the entrance examination in 6 countries abroad instead of just one so far.

Foreign nationals will have to qualify the JEE advanced entrance examination for a seat at the IITs. Candidates eying the M.Tech courses at these institutions will have to clear the GATE exam which will also be held in 6 countries as well.

However, foreign students will not have to take up the JEE main examination.

The induction of foreign students in the IITs does not mean lesser seats for Indian students. The 10 per cent seats for the foreign students is an addition to the exiting seats at all the 23 IITs. With this, 20,000 more candidates will be able to write the exam after clearing JEE Main, which will take the total number to 2,20,000.

10% Additional Seats In IITs For Foreign Nationals

The entrance exams will be held in 6 other countries - Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Nepal and Singapore.

The number of foreign students cannot exceed 10% of the total seats in each course offered by the IITs and ISM - Dhanbad. Also there will be no reservation or quota for this category.
