Announced in 2022, this edition of the awards honored remarkable talents in both feature and non-feature films, showcasing the diversity and creativity of Indian cinema. 70th National Film Awards Winners List

This year's winners reflect the rich cultural tapestry of India, with accolades spanning across languages, genres, and regions, underscoring the evolving and dynamic nature of Indian film artistry.

The winners of the 70th National Film Awards for 2022 were announced on Friday, showcasing the best in Indian cinema. In the Feature Film category, Aanand Ekarshi's "Aattam" claimed the prestigious Best Film award. The Best Director accolade was awarded to Sooraj R. Barjatya for his work on "Uunchai," while Rishab Shetty's "Kantara" was recognized as the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Outstanding Performances and Noteworthy Debuts:

Rishab Shetty's exceptional performance in "Kantara" earned him the Best Actor award. The Best Actress award was shared by Nithya Menen for her role in "Thiruchitrambhalam" and Manasi Parekh for her performance in "Kutch Express." Pramod Kumar received the Best Debut Film of a Director award for "Fouja," marking a significant achievement in his career.

In the supporting roles, Pavan Raj Malhotra was named Best Supporting Actor for his work in "Fouja," while Neena Gupta won Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Uunchai." Sreepath was awarded Best Child Artist for his impressive performance in "Malikappuram."

Technical Mastery and Artistic Contributions:

Ravi Varman's stunning cinematography in "Ponniyin Selvan 1" earned him the Best Cinematography award. Aanand Ekarshi won Best Screenplay for "Aattam," and the duo of Arpita Mukherjee and Rahul V. Chittela were recognized as Best Dialogue Writers for their work on "Gulmohar."

Ananda Addhya's creative excellence in "Aparajito" won him the Best Production Design award. The dynamic action choreography in "KGF Chapter 2" by Anbariv was acknowledged with the Best Action Choreography award, and Somnath Kundu received the Best Make-Up Artist award for "Aparajito."

Music and Sound Design Honors:

Pritam's captivating songs in "Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva" earned him the Best Music Direction (Songs) award, while A.R. Rahman was recognized for his outstanding background scores in "Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1." Naushad Sadar Khan won the Best Lyrics award for 'Salaami' from "Fouja."

Arijit Singh was named Best Male Playback Singer for the hit song 'Kesariya' from "Brahmastra: Part 1 - Shiva," and Bombay Jayashri was honored as Best Female Playback Singer for 'Chaayum Veyil' from "Saudi Vellakka CC 225/2009." Jani Master and Sathish Krishnan won the Best Choreography award for 'Megham Karukatha' in "Thiruchitrambalam."

Regional Films and Special Jury Recognitions:

"Emuthi Puthi," directed by Kulanandini Mahanta, was awarded Best Assamese Film, while Kaushik Ganguly's "Kaberi Antardhan" secured the Best Bengali Film award. Rahul V. Chittella's Hindi film "Gulmohar" was also recognized.

The Special Jury Award was presented to Manoj Bajpayee for his performance in "Gulmohar," alongside recognition of Sanjoy Chowdhury's contribution to "Kadhikan." Regional winners included "KGF: Chapter 2" as the best Kannada film, "Saudi Vellakka CC 225/2009" as the best Malayalam film, and "Vaalvi" as the best Marathi film.

Non-Feature Films and Literary Achievements:

Siddhant Sarin's "Ayena" was named Best Non-Feature Film, and Sahil Vaidya's documentary "Murmurs of the Jungle" received recognition. Miriam Chandy Menacherry was awarded for her direction of "From The Shadow."

Koushik Sarkar's writing skills were honored with an award for "Mono No Aware." Sumant Shinde's narration in "Murmurs Of The Jungle" earned him an accolade, and Joshy Benedict's animated film, "A Coconut Tree," was also recognized.
In the writing category, Anirudha Bhattacharjee and Parthiv Dhar won the Best Book On Cinema award for "Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography." Deepak Dua was honored as the best film critic writing in Hindi.

This year's National Film Awards celebrated a broad spectrum of talent, from well-established figures to emerging voices in Indian cinema, highlighting the diverse and vibrant landscape of the country's film industry.
