Every year, on November 29, the United Nations observes International Solidarity Day with the Palestinian people. This day was officially established by the UN General Assembly in 1977, reflecting their concern about the continuing dire situation of the Palestinian people. The main aim of this day is to raise public awareness about the resolution of the issue of Palestine and the peaceful coexistence of two states, Israel and Palestine.

History of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
The partition of Palestine and Israel into two separate states has been a long and difficult journey. Both countries share borders with Jerusalem, with Palestine being predominantly Arab and Israel being predominantly Jewish. The need for independence and separation has been recognized for many years, leading to the adoption of a UN Resolution. This resolution called for the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states, as well as a Special International Regime for Jerusalem. However, the resolution was never fully implemented due to a civil war in Palestine. As a result, Israel became an independent country in 1948, but an Arab state was never established. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly decided to observe the resolution annually starting in 1978.
Importance of International Solidarity Day with the Palestinian People
This day also aims to raise awareness about the ongoing struggles faced by the Palestinian people, such as the Israeli occupation, illegal settlements, and the blockade on Gaza. It seeks to mobilize support for the Palestinian cause and encourage international efforts towards a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The International Solidarity Day with the Palestinian people provides an opportunity for individuals and organizations worldwide to express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and advocate for their rights. It serves as a platform for dialogue, education, and activism, promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict and a future of equality and justice for all.
Observance of the Day
On this day, the United Nations organizes various events and activities at its headquarters in New York and at the United Nations offices around the world. These activities include a special meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, the display of the Palestinian exhibit, and the screening of films on the situation in Palestine. The day is also marked by the issuance of special messages of solidarity with the Palestinian people by the UN Secretary-General and the Presidents of the General Assembly and the Security Council.
