A prominent global hiring and matching platform, has recently released data revealing a 50% surge in hiring for tourism and hospitality jobs between December 2022 and 2023. According to Indeed's quarterly Blue-collar hiring tracker, blue-collar hiring in the tourism and hospitality industry experienced an overall 8% increase.

This significant rise not only indicates a notable post-pandemic recovery but also points towards a promising future for the industry, highlighting the job market's adaptability and resilience in the face of evolving global trends.
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC)'s Economic Impact Research predicts India to become the third most influential market in the Travel & Tourism industry globally. As per Indeed's data, hiring in the tourism industry reached its peak in October 2023 with a 61% increase compared to December 2022. Multiple factors contribute to this surge, including October's popularity for tourism due to weather changes, hill station visits, festive seasons, and more.
Leading the upswing in hiring are top cities such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Kochi. Delhi NCR, accounting for 23% of job postings, solidifies its status as India's historical and cultural hub. Mumbai and Bengaluru follow closely, contributing 5.19% and 6.78% of job postings, respectively. Mumbai, known as the City of Dreams, is a commercial capital with a diverse workforce and significant job prospects. Bangalore, with its pleasant weather and cultural offerings, takes advantage of its distinct commercial, technological, and cultural strengths. Other cities like Pune (2.33%) and Kochi (2.41%) also make significant contributions. Kochi, often referred to as Kerala's commercial, industrial, and financial capital, stands out as a port city offering scenic beauty and unique cultural experiences, earning the title of Kerala's tourism jewel.
Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales, commented, "As we approach National Tourism Day, we must recognize the favorable employment outlook and honor the vibrant spirit of exploration, cross-cultural exchange, and economic advancement due to increased hiring prospects. This rise across cities reflects their adaptability and the economic growth that the tourism sector brings to the workforce."
The hospitality and tourism industry witnessed a shift in traveler priorities in 2023, with factors like sustainability and hygiene taking precedence. Travelers now prioritize specific itineraries and aim to reduce energy consumption during travel by embracing nature and enjoying local experiences. Automation has also entered certain areas, with many engaging in virtual reality tours and booking tickets via chatbots. The tourism sector is adapting to these new patterns, and job creation is aligning with these evolving trends.
