  • Shaheed Diwas or Martyrs' Day, is observed every year on January 30 in India. On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was shot and assassinated by Nathuram Godse during his evening prayers at the Birla House. As a result, the country remembers Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary as Martyrs' Day on January 30th.
  • On this day, the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister, and three Service Chiefs (Army, Air Force, and Navy) offer flower wreaths at his Samadhi at Raj Ghat in Delhi. At 11 a.m., a two-minute silence is observed across the country in commemoration of Indian martyrs.
