Every year on May 1st, Maharashtra Day is celebrated to honor the creation of the state of Maharashtra in India. Following the linguistic separation of the bilingual Bombay State into Maharashtra and Gujarat, the state of Maharashtra was established on this day in 1960. Touted across the state, Maharashtra Day is celebrated with tremendous fervor, with a range of cultural activities, parades, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and community get-togethers. In Maharashtra, this is a public holiday, and businesses, government offices, and educational institutions are closed on this day.
The day is an opportunity to celebrate Maharashtra and its people's rich cultural legacy, history, and accomplishments. It also fosters togetherness and offers a chance to consider the state's advancement and growth.

Maharashtra has a cosmopolitan, forward-thinking, tolerant, and alive atmosphere. The connoisseurs of temples, forts, old structures, and art are plenty to be occupied here. Forts have played a significant role in the history of the state due to the rough topography of the Sahyadris. All of them tell the story of an innovative leader in the Deccan arena, Chhatrapati Shivaji, who rose to become one of India's longest monarchs through tenacity. Bombay, or Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is not just India's financial capital; it is also the centre of the world's largest film industry, with a turnover that exceeds the GDP of numerous small countries. Maharashtra covers 308,000 square kilometres and has a population of 112.4 million people as of 2011. Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli share boundaries with the state. The western coast of the state is bounded by the Arabian Sea. Mumbai, the state capital, is India's largest and most populated metropolis and the world's sixth-largest metropolitan region.
