Interview: SBI Foundation CEO observes a growing inclination of young people towards social entrepreneurship

Careerindia recently had an opportunity to make an interview with the MD & CEO of SBI Foundation, Sanjay Prakash, wherein he elucidated his opinions on the major concerns that are interlinked with the youth of the country and nation at large.

Youth towards social entrepreneurship

An interview is a dynamic and important contact that gives people the chance to present their abilities, backgrounds, and personalities to potential employers, academic institutions, or other key parties. It acts as a starting point for discussing compatibility and suitability for a certain position or opportunity between the interviewer and the interviewee.

Interviews provide a more thorough knowledge of a person's qualifications and capacity to succeed in a certain context than a résumé or application can. This initial in-person or online meeting offers the chance to not only highlight qualifications but also to build a connection that goes beyond the written word. As the discussion progresses, insightful information is shared, empowering both parties to make wise judgments.

Making interviews successful as well as illuminating encounters that can influence one's personal and professional journey requires effective preparation, careful communication, and real engagement. So, Careerindia is presenting an Interview wherein; Mr. Sanjay Prakash, MD & CEO, SBI Foundation has openly presented his opinions on the following concerns:

(i) Exploring the Ascending Trend: Urban Youth's Shift Towards Social Entrepreneurship as a Career Choice.

(ii) Top 10 career options in India's Social Sector for Youth.

Responding to the above-stated issues, Mr. Sanjay Prakash, MD & CEO, SBI Foundation shared his viewpoints as follows:

1. How Urban Youth's Shift Towards Social Entrepreneurship will impact choosing the right career path?

The urban youth's shift towards social entrepreneurship is likely to influence their career choices significantly. As they become more aware of societal and environmental issues that are affecting not only the present generation but the future as well, young individuals may opt for careers that prioritize safeguarding the future and purpose-driven work. This trend may lead to a growing number of youth-driven ventures focusing on sustainable solutions and social development. Ultimately, it will contribute to a more compassionate and equitable society as young professionals seek fulfilling careers that address pressing societal needs.

2. What according to you, is the role of social entrepreneurship in triggering social change and sustainable development?

Social entrepreneurship plays a vital role in triggering social change and sustainable development. Industry experts must encourage solutions to rural challenges, empowering young leaders to work closely with communities in focussed areas like education, health, rural livelihoods, self-governance, and environmental protection. By prioritizing community involvement and co-creating solutions, it fosters ownership and sustainability.

3. What according to you, is there enough knowledge about this sector?

There is a growing awareness of the social development sector among the youth. Transformative programs are required to expose young individuals to the realities and challenges faced by rural and marginalized communities. Through hands-on experience and immersive learning, students can gain valuable insights into social development issues, sparking their interest and empathy. While there is progress, more efforts are needed to disseminate knowledge about the sector among the youth. By providing more platforms for engagement and learning, we can empower the next generation to actively contribute to social development and create a positive impact on society.

4. How does the social sector benefit in evaluating individuals' inner selves?

I firmly believe that the social sector benefits greatly from evaluating individuals' inner selves. Young individuals should immerse themselves in rural communities, to get a deep understanding of societal challenges and the lives of the marginalized. This exposure encourages self-reflection and introspection, allowing fellows to develop empathy, humility, and a broader perspective on life. By evaluating their inner selves, participants become more compassionate and socially responsible. Such transformation not only enhances their personal growth but also strengthens the social sector as they bring renewed passion, dedication, and fresh perspectives to address complex social issues, creating a positive and sustainable impact on communities.

5. What kind of impact we can expect in the contemporary world?

When young individuals engage with rural communities and immerse themselves in grassroots realities their experience, profound their understanding of the socio-economic challenges marginalized sections face. They get a sense of social responsibility. When the same set of youth return to mainstream society, these youngsters bring back valuable insights and innovative solutions to address pressing issues, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable contemporary world.

5. How do you see SBI Foundation in this direction?

There are a lot of things being done by SBI Foundation. At this point in time, I can talk about the initiative called SBI Youth for India initiative which fosters relationships between young people in rural and urban communities and grassroots NGOs through an immersive rural Fellowship. By engaging in community-driven projects, young individuals build understanding and empathy. Initiatives like skill development programs, sustainable agriculture projects, and women empowerment drives promote sustainable solutions and uplift marginalized communities. SBI Foundation's support ensures meaningful and enduring partnerships between urban youth and local NGOs, leading to inclusive growth and social development. The initiative focuses on collaborative efforts, strengthening ties, and empowering all stakeholders involved.
