Four-time MLA Mohan Charan Majhi will be the next Chief Minister of Odisha, senior BJP leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Tuesday. The 52-year-old leader is a prominent tribal face in the coastal state. Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida will be his deputies.

Mohan Charan Majhi's appointment brings a fresh perspective to Odisha's governance, with the BJP hoping for a positive change in the state. As an MLA from Keonjhar, Majhi has experience in local politics and is expected to bring new ideas and initiatives to address the state's challenges. With the BJP taking the reins in Odisha, there are high expectations for improved governance, development, and a focus on addressing the needs of the people. Mohan Charan Majhi's leadership will be closely watched as he navigates the responsibilities and opportunities that come with leading a state with diverse needs and aspirations. The new Chief Minister will face the task of building trust among the citizens while working towards progress and development in Odisha.

Two Deputy Chief Ministers Appointed:
Alongside Majhi, the BJP appointed two Deputy Chief Ministers: Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida. This new leadership follows a significant win in the recent assembly polls where BJP ousted the Biju Janata Dal.
Assembly Polls: A Turning Point:
Earlier in the day, the BJP Legislature Party meeting was convened to select the chief minister of Odisha. The meeting was attended by Rajnath Singh and his Cabinet colleague Bhupender Yadav. Mohan Charan Manjhi won the election from the Keonjhar Assembly seat with a margin of over 87,000 votes. He defeated Biju Janata Dal's Mina Majhi and Congress candidate Prativa Manjari Naik.
Who is Mohan Charan Majhi?:
Mohan Charan Majhi began his political career as a village sarpanch in 1997. He won his first assembly election in 2000. Majhi has represented Keonjhar four times and served as an MLA from 2000 to 2009. He reclaimed the seat in 2019.

Political Background:
Majhi is a tribal leader with strong ties to the RSS, BJP's ideological mentor. His journey in politics has been clean and non-controversial. Known for his organizational skills, he has been a key figure in BJP's Odisha unit and served as the Chief Whip in the state assembly.
Education and Net Worth:
Mohan Majhi holds a Bachelor of Arts from CS College Champua, completed in 1993, and an LLB from 2011. According to Aaj Tak, his net worth is approximately ₹1.97 crores, with liabilities around ₹95 lakh.
Oath-Taking Ceremony:
According to BJP sources, the oath-taking ceremony of Majhi and other leaders is likely to be held on June 12 at 5 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar at 2.30 pm on Wednesday and proceed to Raj Bhavan from the airport, party sources said. Several dignitaries, including Union Ministers and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, are expected to attend the ceremony.
Dal Controversy:
In 2023, Majhi faced accusations of throwing uncooked dal at the Odisha Assembly speaker's podium. He was suspended along with BJP leader Mukesh Mahaling. Majhi denied the allegations, stating he brought the pulses as a protest against derogatory remarks by BJD members but did not throw them.
With Majhi at the helm, Odisha enters a new political chapter, ending over two decades of BJD's control.
