10 Reasons Gen Z Should Be Grateful to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar

Dr. BR Ambedkar, leader of the underprivileged, yes but he is a lot lot more than that. If today you are having a happy 9 to 5 job then you must be grateful to Ambedkar. Back in 1942 it was his idea for Indian workers to have 8 hours jobs rather than 12 hours per day, your dearness allowance(DA), Provident Fund(PF) were all his ideas as well. Being the expert on currency and banking during his day, the Reserve Bank of India was established based on his suggestions. Ambedkar advocated for economic independence, free markets, and gold standards. He also stated that demonetization should occur once every ten years to reduce corruption and the flow of illicit funds into the country.

Now, If we go back and look into the pages of history, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar's role as an advocate for labourers' rights and a ray of hope amidst the chaos and turmoil of World War II is significant and really appreciable. We all should know that Ambedkar's efforts throughout this uncertain time demonstrated his firm commitment to social justice and the empowerment of the oppressed population, in addition to his groundbreaking contributions to India's political democracy.

It's terrible that people only remember him as a social reformer and the architect of the constitution. However, in the ultimate sense, he was an intellectual masterpiece. We can even assert that he was the most knowledgeable Indian of his era without a doubt. Some of the things he has given the nation include:

1. Ph.D. thesis "The Evolution of Provincial Finance in British India (1923)

The Royal Commission on Indian Currency & Finance benefited from this paper in 1925.

2. Authored a book titled "The Problem of the Rupee: Its Problems and Solutions."

These concepts served as the theoretical foundation for the Finance Commission of India and were included in the RBI Act of 1934.

3. Labor minister in Viceroy's council.Factory working hours were reduced from 12 to 8 in 1942. provided the concept for creating an employment exchange.

4. Contributed to the Central Technical Power Board's set up.Eventually became the National Power Grid System.

9. If dams were temples of modern India then Ambedkar is the main priest in it. His creations, such as the Hirakud dam and the Damodar River Valley Project, among many others, ensured that the then-developing nation (dating from the 1950s) would have access to adequate electricity to support its dreams. The driving force behind the electoral commission is him.

10. Ambedkar taught us about women's empowerment years ago, during a time when many people were still struggling to overcome gender bias. He framed laws that grant women the ability to own property, receive maternity benefits, and much more (he even quit his law ministry for not passing the Hindu code bill, a measure for women's rights)

Not to be forgotten, he holds a PhD from Columbia University and the London School of Economics. He is the first Indian to have a doctorate from a US university and the third person (after Karl Marx and Mussolini) to have read the whole of the London Library. He crafted our everlasting constitution-the only document still in existence today-and established the groundwork for contemporary Dalit politics during a period when his fellow citizens viewed him as untouchable.
