VIT University gears up for Riviera 2014

VIT University, Vellore-India, is set to conduct its Annual International Sports and Cultural Festival, Riviera'14 which is to be held from February 6th to 9th, 2014. Riviera'13 witnessed more than 6000 students from over 700 colleges from all over the world, in addition to the 20,000 plus strength of our own students on campus, for a sports and cultural extravaganza that is one of the finest in the country.

Apart from having its name included in the Guinness Book of World Records for ‘Maximum people arm wrestling at the same time' and ‘3005 plus members to form a giant palm as a tribute to the Indian Women', Riviera also has the honour of being the first University festival in India to be ISO 9001:2008 certified, which is a guarantee for better and bigger experience with every passing year. Indeed, Riviera'14 promises you an experience you are not likely to forget.

Riviera does assure to have something in store for every participant. Talk about music, and there you go with fantastic offerings of genres ranging from metal to classical and folk. Music lovers / enthusiasts would bet not to miss out on such a scene! Additionally, there are few more favourite events like Raga Reggae, Resonance and Acoustic Vibes for a greater delight.

For those lovers and fans of drama, theater and movies, there will be Dream World Film Festival and Khalbali-Street Play waiting to enthral its audiences.

There will also be ample scope for you to let the dancer in you take the charge and dazzle its way to winning amazing prizes as your four beloved dance competitions make a bigger and better comeback this year.

While fashion enthusiasts can witness high fashion at Style Check as colleges' battle it out for the title of the best dressed, we also have a whole range of events for art lovers, ranging from fine arts, pottery, body art to photography contests and much more.

Literary buffs need not be left behind either, with VITDT 2014 the 3rd edition of the annual British Parliamentary Debate Tournament hosted by the VIT Debate Society as a curtain raiser to Riviera'14, scheduled from31st January to 2nd February 2014. With the adjudication core from Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Bangladesh and India, it promises to be one of the biggest tournaments hosted by India.

With an array of Sporting events such as swimming, table tennis, basketball, cricket, snooker, squash, badminton and what not, this Riviera promises an experience of a lifetime.

The best and the most eagerly awaited part of Riviera every year, of course, are the pro-shows that have always been the perfect opportunity for every student on campus to let their hair down and dance the nights away. The past years have seen esteemed performers like Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam, Shankar-Ehasan-Loy, Shaan, Vishal and Shekhar, famous South Indian singers Suchitra, Aalap Raju, Priya Hemesh, Vijaya Prakash, Anuradha Sriram and Srinivas, the popular pop singer Daler Mehndi and the German Rock Band Cherries on a Blacklist Our city of Vellore has several prominent landmarks of which Vellore Fort is the oldest.

Vellore falls midway to prominent cities of Bengaluru and Chennai. The city's most popular modern landmark is the Golden Temple with its intricate carving, hand-made by hundreds of gold artisans specialising in temple architecture. The city is also in close proximity to places like Kodaikanal, Mysore, UNESCO world heritage sites of Mahabalipuram and beautiful architecture and cultural hubs such as Puducherry.
