IGNOU introduces IT Mass Literacy Programme

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has formed a working group on Information Technology (IT) Mass Literacy Programme under the chairmanship of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Vice Chancellor Prof V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai.

With introducing a website on the IT Mass literacy programme, the group has began its work. The website aims to come out successful as a portal that provides programme for certification and feedback, and also certifies that a person is an e-literate.The website have a primary goal to bring together all institutes, universities, corporates and colleges offering IT programmes on one platform in order to generate statistics about IT literates.

According to a letter from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Department of Information Technology (Human Resource Development Division) and the recommendations of the Standing Committee of Parliament for Department of IT, the website on IT Mass Literacy has been launched to integrate literacy rate in computers.The idea is to define a outline regarding knowledge of IT , so that a person bearing specific knowledge with some experience in IT applications can be called a certified IT professional for basic level.
