Because of Japan, We celebrate the Independence day on August 15

Indian Independence Act was approved by British Parliament and the Queen in July 1947 itself.
And it was left to the discretion of Lord Mountbatten to decide the appropriate date for independence.
He wanted our independence date to coincide with Japanese surrender day in WW2.
The Japanese surrendered in the World War 2, on the August 15, 1945: 6 days after the bombing of Nagasaki.
Thus influencing independence day of 3 countries: India, North Korea, and South Korea
Britishers weren't the only colonizers present in India.
French (primarily Puducherry) and Portuguese (Goa) had occupied some Indian territory as well.
French and Portuguese India were finally  integrated into the mainland in 1954 and 1962 respectively.
