Engineer's Day is celebrated on various dates across the globe.
However, in India, September 15 is known as National Engineer's Day
Why it's observed on September 15?
The celebration is a tribute to the achievements of 'Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvaraya', who was born on this very date in 1860.
Tanzania & Sri Lanka
Such was his fame and contributions that his Birthday (September 15) is celebrated as Engineers' Day in Sri Lanka and Tanzania as well.
Born in Muddenahalli near Chikkaballapur in Karnataka
He went on to become the first Indian to be a civil engineer, having studied civil engineering at the College of Science in Pune.
This Bharat Ratna awardee (1955)  is best known for inventing the block system for dams in India
Developed a system to protect Visakhapatnam port from sea erosion. This dam created the biggest reservoir in Asia when it was built.
Rose to the status of a hero, having designed a flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad.
Known by his initials MV
He was knighted as a Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire by King George V for his contributions to the public good

He is famous for his contributions such as irrigation system at the Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune and Mysuru's Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam.
He is the most popular person in Karnataka, according to the newspaper Prajavani.
There are university, engineering colleges, museum, and metro stations named on him in the country
