Hindi Diwas is observed every year on September 14.
On this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as the official language of the country. Hindi Diwas is being celebrated since 1953.
Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world
with over 420 million speakers. In addition, more than 120 million people speak Hindi as their second language.
The top 5 most spoken languages are
English (1.3 billion), Mandarin (1.1 billion), Hindi (600 million), Spanish (540 million) and Arabic (280 million).
Dozens of Hindi words are added every year to English Language by Oxford Dictionary.
Words like avatar, bungalow, guru, jungle, khaki, karma, loot...
...mantra, nirvana, punch, pajamas, sorbet, shampoo, thug, typhoon, and yoga, are borrowed from Hindi.
Indus River
The words Hindi, Hindu, India, and Hindustan have originated from the Indus River. Sadly 93% of the river now flows in Pakistan.

The Hindi language is completely Phonetic;
It is pronounced exactly how it is written.
How it is celebrated?
Several events and competitions are held to mark the day across Schools & colleges in India.
Hindi is spoken in more than 20 countries outside India:
US, Mauritius, South Africa, Yemen, Uganda, Singapore, Pakistan, Nepal and New Zealand etc.
There is another Hindi Day namely World Hindi Day or Vishwa Hindi Divas
It is celebrated on January 10 annually to promote use of Hindi language globally.
It marks the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur in 1975 on the same date.
