Engineering is the most-opted course in India for higher education. Owing to the demand for this field of study, India has over 4,000 engineering colleges. The demand for the engineers is also high in India because of the booming IT industry.
Candidates have to take up a four-year bachelor's degree for a blue-collar job in the IT sector. Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and National Institute of Technology (NITs) are the most popular institutes in the country that offer engineering courses. Along with IITs and NITs, some institutes have earned national importance by providing quality education in engineering such as BITS Pilani and VIT.
To pursue engineering in the IITs, IIITs, NITs, CFTIs and SFIs, a good score in the national-level Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is required. For admission to the state-level engineering universities and colleges, the respective state will conduct entrance exams such as KCET in Karnataka and AP EAMCET in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from the national and state-level examinations, some private institutes also conduct their own entrance examinations for an admission to the engineering courses such as BITSAT by BITS Pilani and VITEEE by Vellore Institute of Technology. Most of the examinations will be conducted in the months of April and May every year.
Here are the top 50 engineering colleges in India prepared based on the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which is approved by the Ministry of HRD.
On completion of BTech or BE, candidates will find placements in the technical industry irrespective of their majors. Most of the MNCs pick candidates from IITs, NITs and BITS with high pay packages. As the real estate, along with other sectors, has gained attention after the slug growth rate, opportunities will be huge for candidates who pursued engineering in civil and mechanical streams. One can also consider pursuing a master's degree after their four-year bachelor's degree.
