University campus life is an ever-evolving and ever-changing system, for any student. Social life, academics, extra curricular activities, friends and newer associations are all part of the university experience.
Although safety and security at the campus is ensured by the university amidst thousands of students and dynamic learning atmosphere, it is very essential for students to individually adopt certain wise practices in times of need.

Being aware of what is happening around you may keep you away from troubles or unwanted issues up to an extent. While there could be safety within the campus, the reality may have locals to cause trouble around the campus. Keeping an eye on such things would be advisable. With a little cautious sense, try to be at places which are well-lit, avoid group of flirting individuals, and try to be in crowded areas as much as you can.
Know people, discern times-
Make sure to know who are you with. It is unwise to be vulnerable to strangers. Think smart and discern the times. Try not to initiate conversation without a need or a definitive purpose with someone who you do not know. Know the people before you get into any relationship hastily. Know where you stand. Do not do things just to please those around you.
In case of an emergency, you should know whom to run to. Keep people's contact information handy and readily accessible, whenever required. If you feel threatened or lost, just relax and approach your seniors or elders in the vicinity for help. Get in touch with the security for situations that are critical like unexpected fires, harassment, violence, missing items or friends etc.
Directions and routes-
Familiarise yourself with local routes and directions. Step out and scout the location which are in and around your university. Be aware of your local public transport system. Getting to know some local people around will help if you're lost late at night. Store some taxi numbers and local cab companies contact details for emergency purposes. Also, make sure they have their licenses intact.
Learn to play safe-
There could be occasions where conflict seems inescapable. Try to keep away from unnecessary fights, if you are intoxicated at nights. Be in good terms with everyone around you. Wear on patience and tolerance, for your own good and the good of others. Keep your personal belongings and information confidential . Walk away if you get stuck in an argument with a drunk, it saves you from problems.
Communicate and inform-
Generally, if you are living in a large accommodation with many other students, and when you decide to go out with an unknown group of people, communicate and inform your friends or family about your whereabouts. By doing so, even if something happens, you can be sure that someone knows where to look for you.
