Why Businesses are seeking BBA Graduates to shape the future

By Dr Vaidyanathan Jayaraman

Imagine the following scenario: You are about to hire an undergraduate student who has majored in Business Administration. You're unsure whether they would align themselves with your organization's vision, mission and goals. What can you expect from this BBA graduate.

Why Businesses are seeking BBA Graduates

1) Diverse range of skills - A typical BBA curriculum includes several foundation skills such as

  • Personal and Career foundations
  • Ethics and Moral reasoning

It also includes employability and practitioner skills including:

  • Emotional intelligence
  • Leadership, teamwork & Global Dexterity
  • Communicating Eectively

Armed with these skills, a BBA graduate can display a good understanding of factors such as negotiation, conflict resolution in cross cultural settings and present recommendations and possible solutions in both written reports and verbal presentations.

2) A rather fresh perspective - A BBA graduate can bring innovative ideas and fresh perspectives to any organization. If they get trained from a good institution, they cover a wide range of courses such as Business Management, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Human resources, Organizational behavior, Leadership, Data Sciences and Technology management. This can typically support the
organization's objectives and align with their strategies.

3) A well-rounded Global education - By hiring graduates with a well rounded, solid education, the organization can provide them with plenty of opportunities to thrive and succeed in a dynamic environment. This also gives rise to their professional development and advancement - all of this leads to future leaders and a skilled workforce that can take the organization into the future.

4) Networking Opportunities - In a Business school, it is typical to expose students to several guest speakers, sessions and interactions with industry leaders. The global learning and student life opportunities would lead the graduates to build their professional network that can include alumni, industry leaders, faculty and their fellow students. The organization can benefit immensely from hiring graduates who could have access to talent pools and partnerships.

5) Creativity, innovation and willingness to learn - A BBA graduate learns to adopt innovative creative strategies while addressing ambiguity in the current business environment. They also develop their own style to cope with ambiguity and prepare a road map to handle future projects that require strategic thinking.

6) Agile, adaptable and risk-taking - BBA graduates possess strong learning agility and are able to quickly adapt to the ever-changing business environment and landscape. By not being fixated on only one way to approach a problem, they can bring in new technologies and processes and are quite aware of current industry trends.

To summarize, while hiring a BBA graduate may not always guarantee success, integrating them into any organization and providing them with opportunities for growth and development can significantly contribute to the company's future. Working in teams and meeting deadlines can help them foster long-term success. In today's day and age, "NEXT" practices are more important compared to "BEST" practices.

In these days of disruptive technology, AI, IOT and Blockchain, all BBA graduates should maintain their poise and energy - remember, some EQ+IQ+SQ = successful career.
